Interventional Radiology is an advanced & established form of image guided therapy for many diseases . With ongoing advancement and imaging techniques it provides the answers to many unsolved clinical problems. Apart from laparoscopic and robotic advancements, the IR is one of the most rapidly growing mode of therapy.
As the IR depends upon the image guidance hence the comprehensive understanding of three dimensional anatomy with amalgamation of imaging techniques is of utmost importance
The conventional training and teaching of Imaging degree programs lacks the basic clinical exposure to these trainees which needs to be improved upon. Many state of art IR institutes has already started the dedicated IR fellowships and DM programmes for filling up these gaps.
Our esteemed society of ISVIR, which is the largest society or Indian IRs is holding the flag of interventional Radiologists high for last many decades. we are committed to further raise this flag high with the help of new, dynamic and budding IRs
My message to all IRs
DO NO HARM TO PATIENTS
Interventional radiology is a relatively new subspeciality of radiology wherein image-guided minimally invasive procedures are done through pin-holes using needles, wires and catheters. Bleeding vessels can be blocked with coils, particles and glue. Occluded vessels and ducts can be recanalized by balloon plasty and stenting. Interventional radiology can be life-saving for patients in several critical scenarios including stroke and acute gastrointestinal haemorrhage.
The Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh State Branch of ISVIR is a relatively new professional society. We are at the forefront of organizing teaching and academic programs not only in North India but in the entire country. Our young and vibrant members have been conducting outreach teaching programmes in different states of the country and have organized many collaborative academic programmes.
Our mission is to provide education to our members and to promote exchange of ideas and information in the field of interventional radiology. We also aim to improve awareness about interventional radiology amongst the medical fraternity and the public. We hope that interventional radiology gets established as a clinical subspeciality and we can take care of our patients directly as this will improve patient care.
It is an honour to have been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the activities of the ISVIR State Chapter as its Secretary. Interventional Radiology (IR), as a field of radiology and medicine, has transformed the management of various pathologies by the use of minimally invasive image-guided procedures involving almost all the organ systems of the body. Being a sub-specialty that is still young and continually evolving, it becomes imperative to popularise it so that its benefit can be percolated far and wide for it touch upon the most remote of patients. Referring physicians are an important part of the chain in creating awareness about the myriad interventional procedures that are currently available. For the same, our state chapter is active in holding various programmes like multidisciplinary symposia, outreach programs and annual meetings to sensitize physicians, administrators and patients about the effectiveness of various interventional techniques. These programmes also help to train our younger colleagues with strong teacher-mentor interactions. We have an exciting executive team, composed of both experienced seniors and enthusiastic youngsters, which is constantly at work- brainstorming, mentoring and organising these events. We hope that with the guidance and blessings of our mentors and past executives, and the persistent efforts of our present team, we would expand our horizons and help take IR to greater heights. We are always open to suggestions and advice, which can be shared at our official email or as a communication to any member of the present team.
Long live IR!
